چکیده

Existing algorithms for camera calibration and metric reconstruction are not appropriate for image sets containing geometrically transformed images for which we cannot apply the camera constraints such as square or zero-skewed pixels. In this paper, we propose a framework to use scene constraints in the form of camera constraints. Our approach is based on image warping using images of parallelograms. We show that the warped image using parallelograms constrains the camera both intrinsically and extrinsically. Image warping converts the calibration problems of transformed images into the calibration problem with highly constrained cameras. In addition, it is possible to determine affine projection matrices from the images without explicit projective reconstruction. We introduce camera motion constraints of the warped image and a new parameterization of an infinite homography using the warping matrix. Combining the calibration and the affine reconstruction results in the fully metric reconstruction of scenes with geometrically transformed images. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm is tested with synthetic and real data. Finally, examples of metric reconstructions are shown from the geometrically transformed images obtained from the Internet. 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Camera Calibration and Scene Modeling from Arbitrary Parallelograms Imposing the Multiview Constraints

This paper proposes a novel framework using geometric information on parallelograms for camera calibration and scene modeling (Fig 1). In the images captured in man-made environments, there are many primitives giving the geometric information. Among primitives, parallelograms and parallepipeds are frequently present in the scene, such as the architecture. The scene’s affine structure is embedde...

An Affine Invariant of Parallelograms and Its Application to Camera Calibration and 3D Reconstruction

In this work, a new affine invariant of parallelograms is introduced, and the explicit constraint equations between the intrinsic matrix of a camera and the similar invariants of a parallelogram or a parallelepiped are established using this affine invariant. Camera calibration and 3D reconstruction from parallelograms are systematically studied based on these constraints. The proposed theoreti...

Camera Calibration with Two Arbitrary Coplanar Circles

In this paper, we describe a novel camera calibration method to estimate the extrinsic parameters and the focal length of a camera by using only one single image of two coplanar circles with arbitrary radius. We consider that a method of simple operation to estimate the extrinsic parameters and the focal length of a camera is very important because in many vision based applications, the positio...

Image-based Modeling Using a Two-step Camera Calibration Method

We present a two-step camera calibration process based on linear least squares formulations. We show how to apply this process to build an integrated modeling environment, in which a scene is modeled by having the user specify, on a given image, a set of reference points (used for camera calibration) and object points (used for positioning the objects in the scene). Once this has been done, syn...

Accurate Camera Calibration with simplified Patterns with a Self-calibration Approach

In this paper we present a unified approach for calibration and self-calibration of multi-camera systems. The technique is based on an algorithm for the resolution of the self-calibration problem, with which it is possible to find the camera geometry up to an arbitrary perspective transformation of the calibrated scene space. The correct geometry is then obtained by properly exploiting the dime...
